Course Overview

The fifth annual Wound Care Seminar will take place Saturday, November 14, 2026 at the Embassy Suites Columbus (Airport). The seminar, which offers 6 hours of Ohio Category 1 CME credits, will feature lectures on the hottest topics in Wound Care from leading experts in the field. Negative Pressure Wound Therapy: From Tried and True to What’s New - Ralph Napolitano, DPM
Objectives:
• The presentation will provide an overview of wound healing biology with a special emphasis on wound healing barriers
• Discussion will include a historical review of the common forms of negative pressure wound therapy
• Attendees will review the latest advances in negative pressure wound therapy and will include case examples
8:30 AM - 9:15 AM Beyond the PICC Line: Oral Antibiotic Strategies for Foot and Ankle Infections - Caitlyn Hollingshead, MD
Objectives:
• Select empiric antimicrobial therapy for common foot and ankle infections based on infection severity, likely pathogens, prior microbiology, and patient-specific risk factors
• Interpret culture and susceptibility results to develop targeted antimicrobial regimens while avoiding unnecessary broad-spectrum therapy
• Identify patients with diabetic foot infection and osteomyelitis who can be appropriately treated with oral antimicrobial therapy
• Select oral antimicrobial agents based on pathogen susceptibility, bioavailability, tissue and bone penetration, adverse effects, and drug interactions
• Apply current evidence to determine appropriate route and duration of antimicrobial therapy following medical or surgical management of foot osteomyelitis

Objectives:

10:30 AM - 11:00 AM     Effects of GLP-1 Receptor Agonists on Wound Healing: What’s next? - Nicholas Butler, DPM
Objectives:
• Discussion will include the proposed mechanisms by which GLP-1 receptor agonists may influence wound healing, including effects on inflammation, angiogenesis, endothelial function, and metabolic regulation

• Attendees will evaluate the current clinical evidence regarding GLP-1 receptor agonist therapy and wound-healing outcomes, with particular emphasis on diabetic foot ulcers and limb preservation
• The presentation will identify current gaps in the literature and future research priorities regarding the potential role of GLP-1 receptor agonists in improving wound healing, reducing ulcer recurrence, and decreasing lower-extremity amputation risk
11:00 AM - 11:45 AM     When Healing Hits a Wall: A Case-Based Approach to Chronic Limb-Threatening Ischemia (CLTI) - Chris Paprzycki, MD
Objectives:
• The presentation will review etiology of arterial disease, and the diagnostic modalities to evaluate wound perfusion 

• Discussion will include utilizing a practical, case-based approach to evaluate revascularization options for CLTI patients
• Attendees will discuss how to develop appropriate surveillance strategies to monitor wound healing and treatment response—and recognize when vascular re-evaluation is warranted

Advancing Foot & Ankle Surgery and Wound Care Workshop
Hands-On Innovations in Minimally Invasive Techniques, Regenerative Medicine, and Biologic Reconstruction
The Workshop will include four stations:
1 - Minimally Invasive Foot & Ankle Surgery (MIS)
2 - TenoNova Percutaneous Tenotomy System
3 - Acera Restrata Extracellular Matrix
4 - Advanced Biologic Solutions

Objectives:
• Attendees will gain familiarity with innovative technologies utilized in foot and ankle surgery and wound care
• Attendees will develop confidence using product-specific instrumentation and procedural workflows
• Demonstrations will  assist with understanding appropriate clinical applications and patient selection for each technology
• Participants will learn practical techniques that may be incorporated into surgical and office-based practice

This Seminar has been accredited by the Ohio Foot and Ankle Medical Foundation Continuing Medical Education Accreditation Committee (the certifying agency in Ohio for podiatry). CME credit is established at 6 Category I contact hours for the State Medical Board of Ohio.

About the 2026 Faculty:

Richard Schilling, DPM - Chairman
Dr. Schilling is an esteemed podiatric physician with over 20 years of experience. He is licensed in Ohio and is board certified in foot surgery. Dr. Schilling graduated from the Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine with a Doctorate of Podiatric Medicine and completed a residency at DePaul Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri, as well as a Fellowship training in Reconstructive Foot and Ankle Surgery at the Weil Foot and Ankle Institute in Des Plaines, IL. Through his education and years of experience, Dr. Schilling has developed specializations in diabetic foot care, sports medicine, reconstructive foot and ankle surgery, and wound care. Dr Schilling is the Principal Investigator on several clinical studies associated with wound care, currently. Dr. Schilling is a past president of the Ohio Foot and Ankle Medical Association and is on the Board of Directors for the Ohio Foot and Ankle Medical Foundation. Dr Schilling is associated with both Ohio Health and Trinity Health Systems in Columbus, Ohio. Dr Schilling is now the Manager of the Limb Preservation Program at Mt Carmel East in Columbus, Ohio.

Nicholas Butler, DPM
Dr. Butler is an Assistant Professor in the Division of Clinical Sciences at KSUCPM. He completed his medical education at KSUCPM and went on to complete post-graduate training at Jefferson Health System in Stratford, NJ. Dr. Butler brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise in both podiatric medicine and surgery with an emphasis on diabetic foot care, sports medicine, pediatric care and preventive medicine. Dr. Butler is on staff at Cleveland Clinic Euclid Hospital. He practiced previously at Cornerstone Foot and Ankle in Sewell, NJ and was one of the teaching attendings at Jefferson Health Podiatric Residency program for four years, prior to joining KSUCPM/CFAC. He is board certified by ABPM and board qualified by ABFAS.

Caitlyn Hollingshead, MD
Dr. Hollingshead is the Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of Infectious Diseases at The University of Toledo. She has a degree in microbiology from Miami University and completed her medical degree at the American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine. Dr. Hollingshead completed her internal medicine residency and fellowship in infectious diseases at The University of Toledo. She is the associate program director of the infectious diseases fellowship at The University of Toledo and the director of wound infectious diseases at The Toledo Hospital. She serves as the Administrative Editor-in-Chief of Infectious Diseases at StatePearls Publishing and is a director-at-large of the American Board of Wound Medicine and Surgery.

Caleb McFerren, DPM
Dr. McFerren graduated from Temple University School of Podiatric Medicine and completed his podiatric residence at The Ohio Sate University. He is board certified by the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery. Dr. McFerren  is an assistant clinical professor of Orthopaedics and is active with the Podiatric Residency Program at The Ohio State University College of Medicine.

Ralph Napolitano, DPM
Dr. Napolitano is a double board-certified podiatrist, wound care specialist physician and award-winning researcher with publications spanning over two decades on wound care and healing, surgical limb preservation and wound healing technology. He specializes in medicine, surgery and wound care of the foot, ankle and leg. Dr. Napolitano is the Director of Wound Care and Healing at OrthoNeuro.

Chris Paprzycki, MD
Dr. Paprzycki specializes in vascular surgery at The Christ Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio. He earned his medical degree from the Medical College of Ohio / University of Toledo College of Medicine and Life Sciences. Dr. Paprzycki  is active in clinical teaching for students, residents, and fellows through The Christ Hospital, and holds leadership roles within organized medicine, including with the Ohio State Medical Association.
