State Advocacy
The Ohio Foot and Ankle Medical Association is proud to work on the many legislative and regulatory issues that face podiatric physicians and surgeons.
Despite all the pandemic-related disruptions to our personal and professional lives over the past few years, OHFAMA has successfully advanced our legislative and regulatory objectives, including:
- Securing Governor DeWine’s signature on bills that that enable podiatrists to administer the flu, COVID-19 vaccines to patients
- Advocating to make permanent Medicaid telemedicine rules that helped podiatrists care for patients during the pandemic
- Protecting podiatrists from civil liability and disciplinary actions during the COVID-19 pandemic
- Ensuring new Medicaid rules included ankle privileges in our scope of practice and authorize payment for vaccinations

Recent Activities
Our Advocacy News section features the latest information about what is happening at the statehouse, State Medical Board of Ohio, and many state agencies that impact podiatric physicians and surgeons.
Carrier Advisory Committee | Private Insurance Advisory Committee
The CAC and PIAC structure consists of representatives appointed by state podiatric medical associations to assist members in resolving Medicare and private insurance-related concerns. Knowing and using the state's appointed CAC and PIAC representatives, who are practicing podiatric physicians with expertise in dealing with insurance issues, may help in claims appeal, contracting, understanding medical policy, and more.

Scope of Practice
OHFAMA works with policymakers and regulators to ensure Ohio podiatric physicians and surgeons can practice at the top of their license. The ever-evolving education and training of podiatrists, coupled with ambiguous state law and administrative code, often generates member questions about whether procedures are within the scope of practice for Ohio podiatrists.
Please review our Scope of Practice webpage for the latest guidance from the State Medical Board of Ohio and contact OHFAMA Executive Director Luci Ridolfo, CAE should you have any questions or concerns.
Civic and Political Involvement Survey
OHFAMA encourages members to become involved in the legislative process.
With the ever-changing roster of elected officials at the Statehouse, it is important for us to know which members have relationships with legislators.
Please take a moment to complete our Civic and Political Involvement Survey to help us gain insight to your connections and willingness to support our advocacy efforts.
White Coat Day
Inviting policymakers to visit your practice is a highly effective way to:
- Educate legislators and their staff about your achievements and challenges;
- Establish or strengthen communication between legislator’s office and your own health care practice;
- Establish or enhance a personal relationship among the legislator, his/her staff and your practice.
Thinking about having a White Coat Day at your Practice? Please use our Legislative Toolkit For Office Visits and contact OHFAMA Executive Director Luci Ridolfo, CAE to help you plan for the day. The toolkit includes sample letters, scripts, and tip sheets on how to set up your very own White Coat Day!
